Kendall Care Clinic FAQs

I cannot be there the entire day. Can I still volunteer? Absolutely!! Although we really do encourage you to be there the whole time and take full advantage of the clinic experience. However, we realize that schedules are full and we appreciate any amount of time you can commit.

When will I need to arrive the day of the clinic and when will I be finished? That may vary by the volunteer position you choose. It will be important for you to get registered before group prayer in the auditorium at 8:30 a.m. You will receive details in the final volunteer instructions the week before the clinic. The official clinic hours are 9:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Please consider staying for tear-down. That would be GREATLY appreciated!

I can't be there the day of the clinic, what else can I do to help? First and foremost, keep this event in prayer. Pray that God will lead the right people to offer services to our neighbors and friends here in Kendall County.

Can my kids participate? Children age 13 and older should register as individuals. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide day care for young children. Therefore, children under age 13 MUST accompany their parents the day of the clinic and will be the responsibility of their parents during the entire day. Depending on the service you choose to volunteer, it may not be appropriate for younger children to have your child with you.

Will there be food and drinks available for volunteers? Yes! We have a volunteer care team who will make sure that your needs are met. There will be some light breakfast food and coffee and juice available when you arrive. You will be served a lunch and have access to water all day long. If you require a special diet or need to eat periodically, we suggest you bring with you whatever you might need.

Where will I park? Parking at Plano High School is reserved for our guests. As a volunteer, please park either at Plano Molding on Hwy 34 (across from the Department of Motor Vehicles) or at First Lutheran Church 200 N. Center Street, Plano. Shuttle buses, beginning at 6:00 a.m., will be available to bring you to the high school and take you back to your car at the end of the day.

Will there be a place I can check my coat? What about bringing a purse? Unfortunately, there will be no area for you to check your coat. Should the day require a coat, you will need to keep it with you for the day. We do not have a secure area to place a purse or anything of value and we encourage you not to leave anything unattended on clinic day.

I do not know if I can commit to be there on clinic day. Can I just come? Can I bring a friend with me the day of the clinic? Yes! Although pre-registration is a big help and strongly encouraged, you can still show up on the day of the event. We suggest you arrive no later than 8:00 a.m. to get registered and be assigned to an area of need. The position of Advocate is our greatest need. Prior to serving a guest family, you will be asked to participate in a brief training session. There will also be other last minute volunteer needs that will be determined closer to clinic day.

What should I wear on clinic day? We ask all volunteers to wear a Kendall Cares Clinic T-shirt. If you have your T-shirt from last year, you can wear it or puchase a new, light blue T-shirt for $12.00 at the Caring Hands Thrift Shop, 1002 S. Bridge Street (corner of 47 and 26) in Yorkville.

Caring Hands' Hours are: Monday - Friday, 9:00 - 5:00; Saturday, 9:00 - 3:00; and the Shop is closed on Sunday. Proceeds will be used for clinic expenses not covered by donations. Jeans or dark pants are suggested, as well and, of course, comfortable shoes!!!
